Children's Hospital: Staying Open

There are many people to pray for today, as Gustav nears the Gulf Coast. I ask you to say one more for the patients and staff of the non-profit Children's Hospital in New Orleans. The hospital shut its doors because of Katrina, but it will remain open in the face of Gustav. There are eighty children there, eighty children who will remain in the hospital because it's too dangerous to move them. Half of them are in critical care.

The doctors, nurses, and other staff remaining at the hospital are all volunteers. God bless them.

Indeed! My prayers will be for all those who are so brave and so challenged. I'll pray for their families, too!

Tim and I were putting a window in today and talking about this post. It is incredible testimony to the courage of the medical staff. But what occurred to both of us is the parents. How could you leave such a sick child? If you had more than one child, how could not leave that sick child. What a horrible, horrible thing to decide.

So many of the parents of these kids, from what I understand, are staying in the hospital with their kids.

The kids and animals are always the potential victims that really get to me.

Glad to get your reports, Hal, and glad you are OK. We're all watching anxiously. Looks like maybe N.O. has dodged a bullet (hopefully) but looks like lots of rain in store north and west of there.

Lots of good thoughts and prayers to those children and those incredible folks. Thanks for letting us know about this.

Hal... even though we are a world away, we are also watching and praying for those left in the path of this storm. I adored New Orleans when I was there (about, er, 17 years ago!!). But it's in a really bad position!!! Deb mentioned the trailer homes (demountables?) left unused after Katrina - hope the authorities get their act into gear with this one.

PS Having had a seriously sick kid, I can put myself in the shoes of the parents of those kids. You just couldn't leave... and those nurses and doctors - deserving of many hugs and serious medals (and lots of 'em)!!
